Newmarket Tips: Elusivity

Finished only a length behind Sirius Prospect and has a good chance of turning around the form.

The 3.35 Newmarket is a conundrum. Regular readers will know I’m a big fan of Sirius Prospect, a horse I regarded as a Group 1 sprinter at the start of the season. Unfortunately, he was a big disappointment at Doncaster 19 days ago.

It is possible that he needed the run after a long winter break but he still ran well below par. His trainer points to trouble in running when manoeuvring from the back of the field. Looking at the race, I don’t rate him as unlucky, if you track his run he was actually out-closed by Internationaldebut.

I’m not writing Sirius Prospect off yet, he is just unbackable at the current odds. A stronger bet is Elusivity, a horse who had very close form lines with Sirius Propsect last season. He finished a length behind him at Ascot, when he probably hit the front too soon.

On his last start of the season Jamie Spencer employed exaggerated waiting tactics on the horse at Doncaster. Unfortunately this let Bohemian Melody get first run on him; a horse who has since gone on to place in Meydan this winter.

I think Elusivity was a shade unlucky last year, once hitting the front too soon and once too late. He is obviously a tricky ride, but a year older and with Spencer getting to know the horse, he could spring a small surprise at 9/1 with William Hill.
