Newmarket Tips: Crew Cut
Record in this race is 7142 and has never contested it off a mark as low as 77. Shaped with promise two starts back.
Stuart Williams is a shrewd operator and I have no doubt Crew Cut has been laid out for the 2.45 Newmarket. A race for grey horses is a novelty but for connections it is a great opportunity to win a decent pot (£12,450) with a middling handicapper.
Crew Cut won this race in 2013 and his record reads 7142 having entered the contest with a rating between 78-84 over the years. In the 2016 renewal he races off a mark of 77 but having won a class 4 handicap at Windsor earlier in the season he still retains all of his ability.
His last two races have been over course and distance but with apprentice Milly Naseb on board, they were probably sighters more than anything else. Last time out he raced in class 3 company but found the opposition too hot to handle, taking his record to 0/11.
Back in the right grade (he is 7/26 in class 4 company) we are more likely to see the best of Crew Cut and on his favourite track he can win what looks a weak renewal of the grey race.
