Newmarket Tips: Caledonia Lady

Unlucky when second in a listed contest on her last start. A high quality filly who benefits from generous weight allowances.

The 5f track on Newmarket’s Rowley mile course is generally speed-favouring but with so much early pace, the race could buck recent trends and favour a hold-up horse.

The likes of Definightly, Inxile and Hamish Mcgonagall all like to lead and the ensuing pace dual could set up the race for Caledonia Lady in the 3.45 Newmarket.

I was very impressed by her comeback run in the Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes at Bath two weeks ago. She was the only horse to come from off the pace, making up almost five lengths on the long time leader Beyond Desire. If the race was another 100yards she would have won.

The performance proves she has trained-on over the winter, as she was taking on solid Group performers like Beyond Desire and Night Carnation. As a three-year-old filly she gets all the weight allowances in today’s race and is 12lbs better off than most of her rivals.

She might come from a small stable but there are no superstars in this race and at 18/1 (Stan James) she looks a cracking bet.
