Newmarket Tips: Baby Strange
Finished a close third in the race last year, arrives in good form and races off a 6lbs lower mark.
The 2.20 Newmarket is a race open to grey horses only; it is regarded as a novelty but with over £12,000 to the winner, connections take it seriously.
Because of the small number of grey horses in training many are tackling a sub-optimal trip or class; a case of square pegs in round holes.
Baby Strange isn’t one of those and having finished third in the race last year, I expect another bold showing.
We’ve not seen the 10-year-old since he finished ninth at Epsom but he was only beaten 5.25 lengths and finished strongly from well off the pace.
A strongly run 6f with some juice in the ground is ideal and with his mark having dipped into the 70s for the first time since October 2012, he should go close at 8/1 (Bet365).
