Newmarket Tip: Sepoy

Was a brilliant sprinter back in his native Australia. If he recaptures that form, nothing can beat him.

Often the hardest thing in racing is to ignore a recent poor run, but to make money punting you need to take risks and that is why I’m going for Sepoy in the 3.20 Newmarket.

On his Australian form, he was second only to Black Caviar in sprinting’s hierarchy. His performances were so good he was rated the best three-year-old sprinter in the world last year, according to the World Thoroughbred Rankings.

Unfortunately, everything went wrong after his move to Godolphin. He flopped badly in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai, trailing in 10th, and hasn’t been seen since. It might be the travel took more out of him than connections thought, or alternatively he didn’t handle the Tapeta surface. Either way there are plausible excuses, certainly enough to give him a second chance.

He could trail in last, but if he can recapture his Australian form then nothing in the field can live with him. At 11/2 (Betfred) he is worth the risk.
