Newmarket Tips: The Cheka

Record on first start of the season is: 11321. Hard to beat if continuing the pattern.

The Cheka makes his first appearance of the year in the 3.30 Newmarket and he is a horse you need to catch fresh. On his seasonal debut over the last five years, he has finished 11321.

Not only are his results excellent but they are backed up by Racing Post Ratings.

The Cheka Seasonal Debut RPR (season high RPR)

2008: 100 (104)
2009: 106 (106)
2010: 113 (113)
2011: 113 (113)
2012: 113 (115)

The Cheka is usually at his best first time out. In each of the last three seasons he has hit a mark of 113 first up, that should make him very competitive in a race where Hawkeyethenoo is the top rated horse with an official rating of 112.

Something in the field will need to produce close to a lifetime best to win the race and even then I doubt it will be enough the beat The Cheka, especially if he repeats the pattern of previous seasons. At 5/1 (William Hill) he looks the best bet.
