Newmarket Tips: Sole Power

Arguably the best 5f sprinter in Europe but had no sort of luck in 2013. That could be about to change especially with quicker conditions in his favour.

After a luckless campaign in 2012, Sole Power’s finally got his ground in the 2.35 Newmarket. The former Nunthorpe winner needs firm ground to be at his best and he should get his desired conditions after a dry spell at Newmarket.

If you pick through his form over the last 12 months he’s not done a lot wrong. He finished second in the Temple Stakes when Bated Breath got first run on him, he was third in the King’s Stand when drawn on the wrong side, he had no chance in the Nunthorpe or the Abbaye from his draw and he won at Doncaster.

A recent spin in Meydan was also encouraging. He was badly drawn on his last start but was only beaten 2.5 lengths by Shea Shea, probably the best sprinter in the world currently in training.

The big danger this afternoon is the progressive Pearl Secret but I’d rather back a horse proven at this level rather than betting on potential. At 9/2 (Bet365) Sole Power has my vote.
