Newmarket Racing Tip: Edinburgh Knight

Impressive during the all weather season, he has been saved especially for a turf campaign.

The 3.50 at Newmarket is a huge handicap and with so many runners you could make a case for several. In the last two renewals the stalls have been on the stands rail and that is where the race has developed. Last year the top three finishers were drawn, 21,18,22 and the year before Evens and Odds won from stall 21. The high draw is the place to concentrate and Edinburgh Knight is well berthed in 21.

The Paul D’Arcy trained horse started last season with Guineas pretentions, those were soon put aside as sprinting turned out to be his forte. Described as a ‘big baby’ he started to find his feet at the end of last year. A good performance at Doncaster heralded an excellent all weather campaign.

He is a horse who needs a strong end to end gallop and he duly delivered when he got those conditions on the 28th December. After that win connections stated that he would be put away for a turf campaign; that time has now come. The stopwatch said his win at Lingfield was impressive and the cavalry charge of a big handicap will play to his strengths. The D’Arcy stable has started in fine form and this young sprinter looks well worth following this season.
