July Festival: Day Three

We bring you all the market movers on day three of Newmarket’s July Festival. The July Cup is the feature race at 3.35.

It is a bumper day of racing around the country, with Newmarket hosting the Group One July Cup. The track managed to avoid any overnight rain, with the official going described as ‘good’. Times yesterday were still well above standard, suggesting it was riding on the slow side of good.

In the big race at 3.35 Delegator is on the drift because of concerns over the ground; he is out to 5/1. Australian sprinter Star Witness is next best at 6/1 and could vie for favouritism by mid-afternoon. Amico Fritz, our ante post tip is in to 20/1 having been flagged up at 28/1.

Striking Spirit is being well supported in the 2.55 Bunbury Cup. After running a big race at Royal Ascot from a poor draw, he is backed to gain compensation. Having been as big as 12/1 this morning he is now 10/1 and getting shorter.

Away from HQ, there is good racing at York today, with the 3.15 John Smith’s Cup the feature race. Pekan Star is all the rage and a best price of 10/3, having touched 5/1. With 20 runners going to post Roger Varian’s colt must be quite useful.
