Newbury & Warwick Preview

The celebrations could start early with races at Newbury and Warwick live on Channel 4.

2:35 Newbury Handicap Chase Cl3 3m2f110y
Quotica De Poyans is the 5/2 (Bet365) favourite in a field of predominantly exposed handicappers. He has won four of his six chasing starts but he is prone to jumping errors and he could be found out over Newbury’s stiffer fences.

Rey Nacarado (11/4 with Bet365) is a previous course winner and ran a good second behind Welsh National runner-up Giles Cross on his last start.

At a bigger price, Den Of Iniquity (10/1 Bet365) could trouble the youngsters. He ran a fair race when fifth at Kelso and Newbury’s galloping track will suit him much better. He has a first and second place in his two chasing visits.

Selection: Den Of Iniquity at 10/1 with Bet365

2:50 Warwick Handicap Chase Cl4 2m4f110y
Not a race to get carried away with and only a handful of chasing form to go on. North Stack is one of the few in good form having placed on his last two starts. He is the most likely winner but the market reflects this with his quote of 10/3 (Sportingbet).

Selection: North Stack at 10/3 with Sportingbet

3:05 Newbury Challow Novices´ Hurdle (Grade 1) Cl1 2m5f
The best race of the day, with Fingal Bay the hot 1/3 (Bet365) favourite. He is unbeaten in his four starts and has three Grade Two races under his belt, the soft conditions should pose no problem. He is clearly very useful but we will know more come March.

Odds-on selections are rarely great betting propositions so Double Ross at 25/1 (Bet365) must rate of interest. He is still lightly raced and open to plenty of improvement. He was a facile winner in soft ground at Folkestone but recording a good Topspeed rating in the process. He is probably the second best horse in the race.

Selection: Double Ross at 25/1 with Bet365
