Newbury Tip: Long Run

Very little to worry him in the race and the price is simply too big for a class act.

Backing odds-on shots is not really my cup of tea but every so often even a ‘shorty’ can be value. I’ve been staring at the 4/6 (William Hill) available on Long Run for the 12.40 Newbury and I can’t help feeling it is wrong.

I doubt any of his rivals are up to his class but even if Long Run was below par, he wins. Burton Port hasn’t raced for 447 days, The Giant Bolster is a doubtful stayer, Tidal Bay is an old rogue who hasn’t won for two years and What A Friend has shown very little.

At the start of the season I thought 4/6 would be the sort of price Long Run would end up for the Gold Cup. He’s not done a huge amount wrong other than run into a revitalised Kauto Star. Coral are more accurate with their quote of 4/9, confirming the 4/6 (William Hill) must be value.
