Mutwawaaly has entries in the Dante and the Derby and to be anywhere near that level he has to be winning the 5.40 Newmarket off a mark of 85.
That might prove to be an oversight on the handicapper’s part given his impressive debut. Mutwawaaly showed a smart turn off foot to win a steadily run maiden (112.5% finishing speed). He covered the final 2f in 22.53s, which is the 14th fastest sectional from the last 5470 runners at the track.
Despite the steady pace he earned an adjusted speed rating of 85, considering that was his debut he should improve and is much better than his official mark.
The one danger is the rain-softened ground blunts his speed but he is an exciting prospect and should win at evens (Paddy Power).
