Lingfield Tip: Taajub

Relatively unexposed at five furlongs, it is a logical trip for this strong travelling type.

The 1.40 at Lingfield revolves around Royal Bajan. He looked an exciting prospect in winning two of his last three races but the one time he was taken on for the lead he folded tamely. With Sir Geoffrey, Falasteen, Six Wives and Island Legend all front-runners, the early pace might be too hot.

If the predicted pace duel materialises then the race could setup for Taajub. He drops down to five furlongs for the first time in nine months but this was a horse who finished second in the Cornwallis as a two-year-old so he has plenty of pace.

His career has never fulfilled the promise of his juvenile days but down to a career low mark there are signs he could win again. On 8 December at Kempton he finished a good fifth, only 1.75 lengths behind the winner, despite taking a hefty bump in the straight.

On his last outing, he ran a similar kind of race, again finishing strongly from off the pace. He can be quite keen in his races, especially when racing over six furlongs, therefore a drop in trip should provide him with a stronger early gallop and help him settle. If the pace collapses as predicted, he can pick up the pieces at 11/2 with Betfred.
