Lingfield Racing Preview

Racing that survives almost all weather

With Newbury abandoned Lingfield picks up the slack with three races shown live on Channel 4.

2:15 Lingfield Blue Square Sprint Handicap Cl5 6f
Ice Trooper should set the pace in the 2.15 but if the other jockeys let him get away he could steal the race at 18/1 with Stan James.

Hatta Stream (11/2 BlueSq) and Night Trade (8/1 BetVictor) are very closely matched on previous form with only a head separating them on 21 January over course and distance.

At a bigger price the shrewd Michael Wigham yard could spring a surprise with Yankee Storm - a proven winner at this level.

Selection: Our tipster goes with Yankee Storm at 12/1 with Paddy Power (read his thoughts here)

2:45 Lingfield Handicap Cl2 6f
Third in Royal Ascot’s Wokingham back in 2010, if Palace Moon (11/4 Boylesports) returns to that level of form he will be hard to beat. After 2011 was spent in the doldrums, he burst back into life when a comfortable winner of a conditions event in January.

Santefisio (7/1 Betfred) makes the long trip down from Scotland for the in-form Keith Dalgliesh team. Accustomed to racing at seven furlongs, he showed a good cruising speed when second in a decent handicap at the start of the month. A drop back to six furlongs shouldn’t cause any problems.

With Mottley Crewe and Norville the only recognised pace in the race, it could turn into a tactical affair, with Norville a tough rival to pass.

Selection: Our tipster goes with Norville at 10/1 with Paddy Power (read his thoughts here)

3:20 Lingfield Blue Square Sprint Handicap Cl5 6f
The complexion of the race will be determined by the tactics of Royal Intruder, if he adopts his usual front-running role then a hold-up horse should profit.

Highland Harvest (10/1 BetVictor) is a consistent performer at this level with six wins at the track, but he will need close to a personal best to win the race.

Picansort (9/2 BlueSq) was unlucky when running into an improving horse last weekend. His trainer will be looking for quick compensation but there is the nagging feeling he is better suited to five furlongs.

If the furious early gallop ensues, the race could fall into the lap of Nubar Boy.

Selection: Our tipster goes with Nubar Boy at 7/2 with Blue Square (read his thoughts here)
