King George Tips: Darlan
A heavy fall at Newbury halted his progress last season but that should be out of his system now.
Darlan looks a tremendously exciting hurdler and is the one to side with in the 2.35 Kempton. Although he rounded off last season with a Grade 2 victory at Aintree I’m not sure we ever saw the best of him.
A crashing fall at Newbury in the Betfair Hurdle rather dented his progress and his confidence was still recovering when runner-up in the Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham; his scratchy jumping costing him any chance of victory.
Given the setbacks, he still managed to achieve a peak Racing Post Rating of 158, only 3lbs behind what Countrywide Flame scored when winning the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at the start of December.
I’d be very surprised if Nicky Henderson hasn’t managed to eek out at least 3lbs of improvement in Darlan since we last saw him 257 days ago, which makes him the best bet at 3/1 (William Hill).
