Kempton Tips: Yungaburra

Winner last time out and very little to oppose him in what is actually a weaker race.

Yungaburra was a winning tip for this column five days ago - he is now very likely to double up in the 5.10 at Kempton. But is he value at 3/1 with Boylesports?

The answer is emphatically yes. Last week there was the imponderable ‘if’ he could ever regain his best form, and that was built into his price. After that victory, we know he is on form and capable of winning and therefore that risk is taken out of the equation, and his odds.

David Griffiths has also managed an excellent bit of placement. Yungaburra is racing in a class seven, 0-50 handicap, a step down from last week’s class six, 0-55 contest. Including a penalty, he is only racing off a 3lbs higher mark.

This is a horse who now has a 19% strike rate on the all-weather, and although he might not reach his handicap high of 100, surely there is scope for improvement from a mark in the mid 50s. I expect this horse to go on a little winning streak if kept to the minimum distance.

Back to the question of value. If I were pricing up the race I’d make this horse an 11/8 chance; therefore at 3/1 (Boylesports) he must be a good bet.
