Kempton Racing Tips: Scarlet Rocks

Won last time out in a quick time and subsequently claimed by shrewd connections.

You don’t see much shrewder connections then the owner and trainer combination in the 5.35 at Kempton. The horse in question is Scarlet Rocks saddled by George Baker. The Whitsbury Manor trainer has enjoyed another fine season with a 20% strike rate, considering he deals mostly in handicappers that is an excellent return.

Last month he acquired Scarlet Rocks after she won a Windsor claimer for the princely some of £7,000. He has spent well. He claimed the horse for Mustafa Khan, one of smartest owners around, especially when dealing with moderate horses. George Baker has a mammoth 32% strike rate for the owner, and it is most encouraging to see Nicky Mackay on board who has a 29% strike rate for Mustafa Khan, with 8 wins from 28 rides.

Not forgetting Scarlet Rocks herself, who is also a useful filly. She had struggled for most of the season but the application of cheek pieces and more positive riding saw her triumph at Windsor by 2.75 lengths, and in a fast time for the grade. Although a claimer, it was by no means a pushover as she faced several horses rated in the 80s.

She is poorly drawn in stall 10, but there is a distinct lack of pace in the race. If she pings the gates she could get an uncontested lead and grab the favoured rail. At 12/1 (Betfred) she is overpriced, especially considering her connections.
