Kempton Tips: Pale Orchid

Ran a cracker against older horses and should be suited by race switching to the all-weather.

The 4.20 Kempton is a race that has been transferred from the abandoned Ascot meeting. It therefore doesn’t contain the vast array of track specialists you might usually expect.

Gusto looks a worthy favourite having won his last four, including two on the all-weather, however at much bigger odds I like the look of Pale Orchid.

She finished 6.25 lengths behind Gusto at Lingfield but didn’t have the run of the race. She was boxed-in turning into the home straight and was then forced to make her move up the slower far rail. I’m not convinced she gets 7f either having twice lost at the trip; she reverts to a more suitable 6f today.

Last time out she finished a good fourth in a listed contest at Bath, racing against some older, more experienced rivals. Although she didn’t win, it is amongst the best form on display and at 25/1 (Bet365) she is overpriced.
