Kempton Tips: Ihtifal

Ihtifal was a huge eye-catcher on her last start but the performance was even more remarkable when you consider the sectional timings.

Starting wide in stall 12, she ran the first 4f in 45s, which is 0.5s quicker than you would normally expect for a class 3 handicap over 6f. This huge effort would normally result in a pace collapse but she kept going to the line, finishing only 1.5 lengths behind Capone. The first two home came from off the pace confirming the impression that the leaders went off too fast.

Ihtifal is obviously a quirky character; she is very headstrong and has to be ponied to the start, therefore dropping her to 5f is a logical step. She has the speed for the minimum distance and Silvestre De Sousa can let her bowl along in front, knowing she has the stamina to stay 6f.

Having run well in unfavourable circumstances she can bounce back with a win in the 5.25 Kempton at 2/1 (Bet365).
