Kempton Horse Racing Tips: Captain Scooby

Looked an unlucky loser last time out and will enjoy the guaranteed strong pace.

The 3.15 at Kempton should be run at a mad gallop with the likes of Le Toreador, Best Trip and Island Legend all confirmed front-runners. The race should set up for something coming off the pace, perfect for Captain Scooby.

A new recruit to the all-weather scene Captain Scooby has only had three runs at Southwell but all three offered encouragement. Last time out he was forced to race down the slower part of the track and was blocked in his run three times. He eventually finished third, beaten 1.5 lengths. The horse still had plenty of running in him as he crossed the line and I marked him down as an unlucky loser that day.

Although this is his first run on the polytrack surface, he should handle it. Trainer Richard Guest has a 12% strike rate at Kempton, the best of the four all-weather venues. The crucial element for Captain Scooby is the strong pace; he has that today and looks good value at 9/1 with Skybet.
