Kempton Tip: Whiskey Junction

All his wins (6/20) have come in small fields like the one tonight.

Lots of the usual suspects in the 6.10 at Kempton. The key form line is the race over course and distance on the 26th January. Sherjawy won that day but I expect Whiskey Junction to turn around the placings.

Normally a prominent runner Whiskey Junction got squeezed for room at the start and was never in a good position. When finally getting a run in the home straight he was staying on nicely before badly hampered near the line. With a clearer run it is difficult to say whether he would have won but he shouldn’t be twice the price of Sherjawy.

The most interesting thing about Whiskey Junction is that he doesn’t like big fields. According to connections he had an accident in the stalls three years ago where he needed 63 stitches. The result is a mental scar that means he can’t stand still in them for long. Therefore it makes sense that the long loading process of big fields stress him and he doesn’t run to his potential.

It is interesting to look at his record in different size fields:

Less than 10 runners: 20 runs | 6 wins | 6 places
10 or more runners: 22 runs | 0 wins | 5 places

Obviously it is easier to be flattered in a small field because there are fewer rivals but his record does back up what connections say about him. Whiskey Junction should be pleased that tonight’s race has only 8 runners.
