Kempton Tip: Sherjawy

Third in the race last year and a five-time course and distance winner. Well drawn.

The 5.30 at Kempton might be called a class five handicap but it is actually a class six race in disguise.

The betting is also completely wrong. Somehow Rightcar finds himself the 7/2 favourite even though he is actually running from outside the handicap! He was a very fortunate winner last time out; he looks thoroughly exposed and is better at five furlongs anyway.

This creates value almost everywhere else, with Sherjawy the major beneficiary. He has been running consistently this winter without getting his head in front. At eight-years-old, he has slightly lost his zip and therefore it is logical he steps up in trip to six furlongs today.

A return to Kempton is also a good move, as he has won over course and distance five times in his career. He finished a good third in the corresponding race last year, a much tougher contest as the entire field were within 3lbs of the handicap ceiling.

Well drawn in stall two he can be first to the inside rail and with very little pace in the race front-runners should be favoured. If I were a bookmaker I’d make Sherjawy favourite, not the 12/1 available with BetVictor.
