Kempton Tip: Argentine

Has hinted at a revival since moving to Ian Semple and looks very well handicapped.

Off a career low handicap mark, Argentine is weighted to win the 6.20 at Kempton if he can find any semblance of form. The switch to trainer Ian Semple could be the catalyst.

After an encouraging debut for his trainer I tipped him at Beverley. He finished ninth but nothing went his way. He was travelling well in the pack but the gaps never came, not uncommon on the far rail. The run is easily excused.

His last run was over six furlongs at Wolverhampton. Predictably, the step up in trip was not to his liking. He pulled very hard behind a sluggish early pace and it is to his credit that he had enough energy left to finish 3.5 lengths behind the winner. A return to the minimum distance is his optimal trip.

Record over sprint trips:

Five furlongs: 6 wins / 45 races = 13.3%
Six furlongs: 1 win / 18 races = 5.6%

The one concern is that Argentine won’t be suited to Kempton’s sharp track. He much prefers a stiffer track where the field come back to him. With Cloth Ears in the race, it should be run at a blistering gallop, hopefully fast enough for the speed to collapse and the race to fall into his hands.
