Kempton Racing Tips: Desert Strike

He might look a moderate handicapper but his record over 5f on the all-weather is 7 wins from 22 starts.

It is quite unusual to see a race so jam-packed full of front-runners as the 5.15 at Kempton. It is almost certain that they go too fast, setting the race up for a closer.

Desert Strike was able to come from off the pace to win at Wolverhampton last week and he can be backed at almost the same price to do so again.

All his best form is over five furlongs on the all-weather, where his record is 7 wins from 22 starts. The yard are also in excellent form, with Alan McCabe booting home seven winners in December and two already in January, leaving him with a double figure strike rate.

The bad news is that Desert Strike has to carry a 6lbs penalty for his last win, leaving him on a career high handicap mark. The good news is his price. At 9/1 he rates a strong bet considering he is the only horse who will have the race run to suit.
