Kempton Racing Tips: Danzoe

If Skylla gets into a protracted pace duel then the race could be set up for this previous course and distance winner.

The horse I was going to tip up was Skylla in the 3.50 at Kempton this afternoon. Having been 11/2 early this morning she has been smashed into 7/2. What it does provide is a good lesson in value; although I still rate her the most likely winner, at these prices, I’d rather be laying than backing. For a horse that hasn’t won in over two years I want a good return and the current odds don’t warrant the risk.

When you see one horse heavily backed, the bookmakers are forced to push out the rest of the field and Danzoe (10/1 with Boylesports) becomes of interest.

If they go too fast, and with the likes of Skylla and Welsh Inlet that is a possibility, the race could be set up for a closer. Danzoe has been beaten by 1.5 and 1 length in his last two starts, each time making good headway from off the pace.

Not the most prolific winner, he is much better on the all-weather with a 20% strike rate. Five furlongs is his optimal trip and he did win in a much higher grade over course and distance back on the 23rd August 2010.

The way the market is shaping up he is the value selection at 10/1 with Boylesports. We also have the benefit of best odds guaranteed, therefore if his price drifts further by the off we are paid the bigger SP.
