Kempton Racing Tip: Al Gillani

An 8lbs pull with the favourite is more than enough for Al Gillani to reverse the form.

The 8.50 at Kempton has a favourite that needs to be taken on. Pelmanism had everything go his way last time; he had the plum draw and the pace collapsed in front of him. He was flattered.

On the other hand Al Gillani hasn’t had much go his way. In the same race he had a dreadful draw. His apprentice jockey tried to take a pull and drop him in on the rail, unfortunately getting the rail cost him five lengths on the field. Coming into the straight he made up the deficit and was still travelling best of all, but his mid race exertions told, and he finished a distant fourth.

The race before he finished upsides Pelmanism and tonight he faces him 8lbs better off. I’m not obsessive about weights but that’s quite a generous concession given the horses are roughly the same ability.

Al Gillani is better drawn than the favourite and remember this horse was rated in the mid-80s two years ago, tonight he races off 65.

I must also draw your attention to Alfresco, the mount of Kieren Fallon. A sprint trip suits this hard pulling horse and Fallon is the sort of jockey to get the best out of this monkey. Indeed Fallon has placed all three times he has ridden him. It is worth a small saver on him.
