Epsom Oaks Trends

Epsom Oaks

We look at the profile of the last ten Oaks winners and see if any trends emerge.

Taking place over 1m4f the Oaks offers a unique test for three-year-old fillies still at the start of their careers. We have examined the last ten winners of the Epsom classic and generated three strong trends that the champions fit.

Dam’s strong stamina
Seven of the last ten winners have had a dam with a dosage index of at least 10f. It means that the filly needs to have a middle distance pedigree. A logical trend considering the 1m4f trip is a significant distance for a still relatively young horse.

Winning form over a mile
Seven of the last ten winners had previously won beyond a mile before tackling the Oaks. Similar to the trend above, the mile and a half trip demands stamina in the horse.

Recent winning form
A trend that has lost meaning over the year. Six of the last ten winners had won their last race before the Oaks.
