Epsom Oaks Tips: Wonder Of Wonders

Wonder Of Wonders

Won from an impossible position at Chester. The sign of an immensely smart horse.

It’s hard to criticise the favourite Blue Bunting,  winner of the 1000 Guineas she should be even better suited by the step up in trip. However, I have a sneaking suspicion the Newmarket classic wasn’t a vintage renewal. The winning time was not particularly quick and there do not seem to be many top female milers around. At short odds she can be avoided.

The most impressive display in all the trials came at Chester. Not particularly well drawn in stall eight, Wonder Of Wonders was stuck in midfield whilst Blaise Chorus was allowed to dictate a stop-start gallop. Turning into the straight, the front-runner gained first run on the Aiden O’Brien filly and pulled three lengths clear. In any race this would have been a winning manoeuvre, but Wonder Of Wonders was able to not only bridge the gap but then surge 2.75 lengths clear.

It is very rare for a horse to show such a strong mid-race turn of foot, especially off a slow pace. The horse has now won twice on tight turning tracks, a good education for what she will face at Epsom. The pick of the Irish raiders, she looks the one to beat.

Coral are going Non-Runner No Bet. Therefore if Wonder Of Wonders doesn’t make it to the start line we get our money back.
