Epsom Dash Tip: Confessional

Epsom Dash Tip

Finally bagged a good draw after three terrible ones. Has been running well despite his wretched luck.

The 3.15 Epsom Dash is the quickest sprint in the UK and expect another burn up on Saturday. It is possible to win from off the pace as Indian Trail proved a couple of years ago and I think a similar scenario could develop again.

In such a big sprint, the draw always plays a part and it is worth elaborating on this issue. In the last ten renewals of the Epsom Dash high draws have held sway, with six winners coming from the six highest stalls. The stand’s rail is generally the place to be and even away from Derby day this holds true. Stalls 12 to 17 is where to focus.

Within this subset Confessional is the standout horse. A succession of dreadful draws means he arrives under the radar this weekend, but he showed at Chester he still retains plenty of ability when rallying late for fourth place. Drawn in stall 13 he can make the most of his good fortune.

To be at his best, Confessional needs five furlongs on good to firm ground - conditions he should get at Epsom. Under these circumstances his record is 23144. Although trainer Tim Easterby started the season quietly he has landed four winners in the last couple of days. Everything is coming to the boil nicely for Confessional to win at 20/1.
