Doncaster Tips: Tom Sawyer

Won at Beverley despite setting a very strong gallop. Capable of winning in this grade and could prove difficult to pass.

Tom Sawyer’s victories have generally been in single figure fields and although his front-running style might not be suited to the 5.15 Doncaster he must be given a chance after his fine win at Beverley.

Julie Camacho’s sprinter showed his battling spirit to duel for the lead and then hold off the closers and win despite a finishing speed of 99.7%

Fellow front-runner Majestic Manannan fell in a heap and trailed in last 18 lengths behind the winner.

It proves Tom Sawyer can sustain a strong gallop and still score. Doncaster might have a bigger field but that is mitigated by the easier nature of the track compared to Beverley.

If Sam James can judge the fractions correctly and he’s proved good value for his claim so far this summer, then Tom Sawyer might prove impossible to pass at 14/1 (William Hill)
