Derby Betting Unmoved After Irish Sweep

Aiden O’Brien won four Derby trials last week; we look at the impact on the betting.

Aiden O’Brien made it a clean sweep of the Derby trials last week, with victories at Chester, Lingfield and Leopardstown.

Derby Trial Winners’ Ratings - Racing Post

Chester Vase: Ruler of the World (113) – 10/1 (all William Hill)
Dee Stakes: Magician (112) – 20/1
Lingfield Derby Trail: Nevis (TBC) – 33/1
Derrinstown Derby Trail: Battle Of Marengo (115) – 11/2

Of all the trials, Battle Of Marengo’s victory was rated the best but the paucity of opposition in all four races makes it difficult to asses just how good each horse could be. Theoretically all four could be a lot better than their ratings.

As a result, all four have shortened in the betting, but none can be considered significant movers.

The Dante will have an impact on the betting later this week but Dawn Approach looks comfortable at the head of the market at 7/4 (BetVictor).
