Dawn Approach 2/1 for the Derby
The 2000 Guineas winner heads the betting for the Derby.
Dawn Approach’s five-length victory in the 2000 Guineas confirmed he is something special and he was immediately cut to 2/1 (from 10/1) for the Derby. His pedigree looks short of stamina on the dam side, but his sire won the Epsom Classic in 2008 and there is every chance he will get the trip.
Behind Dawn Approach the likes of Van Der Neer (20/1 Paddy Power) and Mars (12/1 Ladbrokes) ran good races and both should improve with a step up in trip; the Dante is next on the agenda.
Toronado ran no sort of race but is still highly regarded by connections. The bookmakers are unsure of his chances, with Sportingbet going 9/1 but Skybet offer 16/1 on Richard Hannon’s horse winning the Derby.
With a month to go and trials coming thick and fast, expect the betting to have several more shake-ups before the big race in June.
