Belle Of The Ball

Belle Of The Ball

Southern Belle showed promise when running fastest closing sectional by 0.84s on debut. Easy winner last time out.

Robert Cowell has carved out a niche with his handling of sprinters but his success has been with older horses – until perhaps now.

Southern Belle is one of his best juveniles and she has a good chance in the Cornwallis Stakes (1.35 Newmarket).

She made a big impression on her debut, running second from a poor draw at Sandown. Having raced in last after a slow start she made up 5.5 lenghts on the eventual winner, running the fastest closing sectional of the race by 0.84s.

Something was clearly amiss when she flopped at Lingfield at odds-on but she was back to her best when an easy winner three weeks ago.

She is one of the lowest rated horses in the field but I doubt we’ve seen the best of yet.
