Ayr Silver Cup Tips: Grissom

Won a similar sprint in heavy ground at Hamilton and not enjoyed much luck since.

The Ayr Silver Cup (2.20) shows how a draw and pace bias can switch from race to race. In the Gold Cup I expect low numbers to be advantaged but in the Silver Cup I think high numbers will hold sway.

This is down to where the pace is drawn. In the low numbers only Hamza looks like a front-runner but amongst the high numbers, you have Spinatrix and An Saighdiur who both like to lead.

Grissom drawn in stall 19 is on the right side of the track and at 25/1 (William Hill) he is overpriced on his best form.

In July, he won the Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton on heavy ground, beating several of the horses he faces today. Since then his form looks sketchy but it is actually better than it appears. At York he was badly drawn and at Goodwood and Ripon he suffered bad interference when travelling well.

Grissom has won 4 times from 17 starts on ground described as soft or heavy; finishing in the top-3 on four other occasions. The heavy going at Ayr should suit him and he looks overpriced at 25/1 (William Hill).
