Astaire The Star Performer

Impressive last season winning four times including twice over course and distance. His defeat of Hot Streak in the Middle Park Stakes reads particularly well.

A three-year-old hasn’t won the Duke of York Stakes (3.15 York) since 1999 but Astaire can break the hoodoo this afternoon.

He won four times over 6f as a juvenile including twice over today’s course and distance.

His most impressive victory came in the Middle Park Stakes where he made all to beat Hot Streak by half a length. The second horse is one I rate very highly and he confirmed that promise by finishing third in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

Astaire’s run in the Middle Park also deserves a slightly upgrade as he made all the running at a strong pace. His finishing speed of 98.6% was the least efficient of the first six home.

Kevin Ryan’s colt finished down the field on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury but the ground was testing and 7f is beyond the limit of his stamina.

Returned to sprinting he can show is talents and is a good bet at 13/2 (William Hill).
