1000 Guineas Betting Preview

A profile of all the horses contesting the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

Run at Newmarket (3.15) on Sunday, the QIPCO 1000 Guineas is the fillies’ first classic of the season. The race is limited to three year olds only and run over a mile.

Our guide to the 1000 Guineas:

barefoot lady
Barefoot Lady: 22/1
Supplemented after winning the Nell Gwyn. Connections unlikely to throw money away on a forlorn hope but the Guineas trial looked weak.

blue bunting
Blue Bunting: 33/1
Won the Montrose Fillies’ Stakes in October a race that has produced two Guineas winners in the last eight years. The 2010 renewal did not look up to that standard but should not be dismissed lightly.

cape dollar
Cape Dollar: 50/1
Sent off 5/2 favourite for the Fred Darling, she finished a poor seventh. A winner on softer ground, she was perhaps flattered last season.

elshabakiya
Elshabakiya: 100/1
Still a maiden and should have won by now if good enough.

empowering
Empowering: 40/1
Stole a group race with a tactically astute ride. The win flattered her and doubtful she will win in the grade again.

havant
Havant: 6/1
Both her wins have come with cut in the ground but could not have been more impressive. Handles the track at Newmarket and demolished a decent field in October. Lightly raced, there is more to come.

hooray
Hooray: 9/1
A precocious two year old, she won the Cheveley Park by 4.5 lengths. Yet to race beyond six furlongs, her immediate family struggled to improve from two to three years old.

i love me
I Love Me: 16/1
Finished behind Cape Dollar and Cochabamba in the Rockfell without excuses. The form of the race has not worked out leaving her vulnerable.

immortal verse
Immortal Verse: 66/1
Useful French raider but unlikely to be good enough.

laughing lashes
Laughing Lashes: 12/1
Took turns beating and then being defeated by Misty For Me last season. The form suggests she is just below the level needed to win the Guineas.

make a dance
Make A Dance: 14/1
A comfortable winner of a good maiden at the end of last season; a race that Oaks winner Sariska won. She should improve for the step up in trip as her dam won over 1m2f.

maqaasid
Maqaasid: 28/1
Finished third in a poor Nell Gwyn, she will struggle to be involved.

memory
Memory: 11/2
Looked a filly going places until she inexplicably flopped at the Curragh. Clearly something amiss that day, she needs to be over her problems to stand a chance.

misty for me
Misty For Me: 8/1
A resolute front-runner, it is unlikely the big field in the Guineas will suit her. Although a tough individual, she might just come up short.

moonlight cloud
Moonlight Cloud: 5/1
A good winner in France already this season she looks the strongest overseas challenger. Extremely well regarded by her trainer Freddie Head. But a short price with her form hard to gauge.

nova hawk
Nova Hawk: 25/1
Only a fair two year old she started the season winning a listed race in France. An improver she might be good enough to threaten a place.

show rainbow
Show Rainbow: 150/1
Ran a good fourth in the Nell Gwyn but the form does not amount to much.

the shrew
The Shrew: 100/1
Won a slowly run 0-85 handicap on the all weather, not the typical profile of a Guineas winner.

together
Together: 50/1
Highly tried as a two year old, she has already raced nine times. Unlikely there is much improvement left in her.
