WGC Match Play Tips: Nick Watney

Reached the third round in each of the last three years and can beat anyone on his day.

In the last three editions of the WGC Accenture Match Play, Nick Watney has been eliminated in the third round but he’s shown enough form at Dove Mountain to be regarded as a genuine title contender. His last three tournament exits have all been by a small margin, losing by one hole on two occasions.

After a stellar 2011, Watney was becalmed for much of 2012, playing steady if unspectacular golf. That changed towards the end of the year with victories at the Barclays and CIMB Classic and he has carried that form into the new season with an encouraging T4 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

They 31-year-old is the sort of player who is almost unplayable when his putter gets hot and at 40/1 (Betfred) he looks a decent each-way bet with ¼ odds if he reaches the semi-finals.
