US Masters Top European: Justin Rose

Justin Rose

A man in form with back to back top five finishes in the US. Always performs well at Augusta.

With European golfers saturating the top of the world rankings, you would expect one of them to go close to winning. Recent history suggests not. You have to go back to 1999 and José María Olazábal to find the last European in a green jacket.

Of the present crop world number one, Martin Kaymer is yet to make a Masters cut in three attempts, and Luke Donald has struggled since the course was lengthened. Apart from Lee Westwood, Europe has underachieved at Augusta in recent years. As for the good news, one market they cannot lose is that of top European.

After two wins in 2010, Justin Rose is enjoying life on the PGA Tour. The good form has continued to 2011 with seven top 25s in eight events. His last two tournaments have yielded a T5 and T3; there aren’t many more consistent players around.

The return to Augusta is also welcome news for him. Despite the odd horror round, the Englishman has made the cut in all five starts, including a best of fifth in 2007. With experience of playing the course key, Justin Rose looks the pick of the European challenge.
