Masters Tips: Kevin Kisner

Ignored because he’s not long off the tee but is a terrific ball-striker and recent runner-up at Bay Hill.

With Rory McIlory a confident headline tip, there’s no point in giving too much back to the bookmakers but it’s always nice to have one outsider onside. Kevin Kisner couldn’t get the job done when a 66/1 selection for the Arnold Palmer Invitational but he’d didn’t do a lot wrong on the Sunday and a bit better luck could have seen the tournament go his way. At least we know he is playing well and that counts for a lot.

The 33-year-old finished T37 on his Masters debut last year and although Augusta played unexpectedly hard and fast, he has the tools to win under a variety of conditions. Not especially long, Kisner is a respectable 68th in strokes gained off the tee and is dynamite with approaches to the green, ranking 13th in proximity from the fairway.

Just because he isn’t a bomber doesn’t mean he should be ignored at Augusta. Zach Johnson and Jordan Spieth have proven there is more than one way to win a green jacket and Kisner deserves to enter the conversation.

He’s finished inside the top-30 on the FedEx Cup for the past two seasons and looks well set to make the Tour Championship again. All that is missing from his CV is contending in a major and he shouldn’t be 100/1. Back him with Sky Bet and get 1/4 odds for a top-8 finish.
