US Masters Profiles: Phil Mickelson
The popular Californian has claimed a stunning 14 top-10s since 1995.
Age: 42
World Ranking: 9
Major wins: 4
Augusta Record: A three-time winner (2004, 2006, 2010), and that only tells half the story. Hasn’t missed the cut since 1997, finishing top-10 in 12 of his last 14 visits, including a T3 last year. Ten top-5 results suggest that ‘Leftie’ is always worth considering as an each-way bet, at the very least.
Form: Rolled back the years with victory at the Phoenix Open where he recorded a stunning 28-under-par total. Soon followed that with a T3 in the WGC-Cadillac and a strong weekend in Houston ensures he arrives in good nick.
Verdict: The oldest of the big favourites but he can still compete at the highest level. The likeable American surprised a few by coming close to adding to his major haul in the British Open in 2011, but Augusta is undeniably his special place. Looked a shoo-in for his fourth Green Jacket heading into the final round last year but a triple-bogey proved ruinous.
