Tournament of Champions Tips: Matt Kuchar

Players Champion looks set for a big year. Finished 3-T6 on his last two visits to Kapalua.

The criticism often levelled at Matt Kuchar is that he doesn’t win as often as he should, which supposedly makes him poor value from a betting perspective; but don’t forget he is a 4-time winner on tour and took the Players Championship last season.

On his last three visits to Kapalua, the 34-year-old has finished T25-3-T6, the first of those is very forgivable as it came back in 2003. Entering the prime of his career, this could be a big year for Kuchar. He finished 2012 ranked fifth for adjusted scoring average, making him one of the best all-round players on tour.

Having recorded his best finish in a major with a T3 at the Masters last year, there are signs that Kuchar is on the cusp of making a big breakthrough. Hawaii could be where it all starts and at 12/1 (Bet365) he is impossible to overlook with ¼ odds for a top-4 finish.
