Shriners Open Tip: Ollie Schniederjans

Shriners Open: Ollie Schniederjans

Precocious young talent who still struggles for consistency. Recent form is poor but hits the ball a mile, good putter and winner on the Web.com Tour last season.

Former world amateur number one, Ollie Schniederjans has been highly regarded for a long time but a season on the Web.com Tour was exactly what he needed.

Plying his trade week-in, week-out on a competitive circuit is ideal preparation for the PGA Tour and that will stand him in good stead. Schniederjans still exhibits inconsistencies but when on-song he can be devastating.

Winner of the Air Capital Classic in June, he bagged four further top-10s on the Web.com Tour although his form tailed off in late summer. Subconsciously he might have relaxed knowing his tour card was secure but for most 23-year-olds you have to accept dips in form.

A missed cut at the Safeway Open wasn’t the ideal start to the wraparound season but he’ll find life easier at TPC Summerlin. It’s a course he has played before, finishing T28 last year and it is forgiving off the tee.

Last season Schniederjans ranked 18th in driving distance, 30th in putting average and 26th in birdie average – which is basically all you need at TPC Summerlin where scoring can be very low.

He’ll need to leave behind a period of mediocre golf to contend but he’s perfectly capable at 250/1 with Stan James paying 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
