Sabbatini to Rise at Phoenix Open

Averages 69.43 at TPC Scottsdale and showed up well for a long way at Torrey Pines last week.

Rory Sabbatini is a difficult golfer to predict, he is a six time winner on tour but misses far too many cuts for someone of his calibre. Nevertheless, I saw enough encouragement at the Farmer Insurance Open to put him in my staking plan.

The big hitting South African closed to within four of the lead on the final day at Torrey Pines before slipping back to T23 in a bunched field.

Overall, it was a good performance from the 37-year-old and it means he carries form into the Phoenix Open, a tournament where he has traditionally played well.

Sabbatini has only missed two cuts in his last eleven visits to TPC Scottsdale and has five top-25 finishes during that period. He scoring average of 69.43 is competitive when you consider Phil Mickelson averages 68.09 and is a fraction of the price.

At 125/1 (Boylesports) he is worth the risk with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish and money back possibilities if he finishes second.
