Phoenix Open Tips: Kyle Stanley

Winner in 2012 and back from the doldrums. T14 last week his sixth top-25 in his last nine starts.

Kyle Stanley memorably won this event in 2012 a week after his calamitous meltdown at the Farmers Insurance Open. It was win that displayed huge courage and it could provide another signpost in his career.

Having struggled with his putter, Stanley dropped out of the world’s top-600 a couple of years ago, scarcely believable for a player of his calibre. It’s been a long road back but there’s been a definite upturn in his fortunes.

Stanley has only missed one cuts since the John Deere Classic last August and during that run of nine tournaments he has six top-25 finishes. Last week he finished a very respectable T14 despite being over-par on the easier North Course.

Putting is still a problem (154th in strokes gained) but there aren’t many better tee-to-green than Stanley. Currently ranked 15th in adjusted scoring average, this could be this season he returns to the big time and becomes the player I thought could eventually win a major championship.

Back him each-way at 125/1 with Boylesports and get 1/5 odds for a top-6 finish.
