Phoenix Open Tips: Geoff Ogilvy

Familiar with the course as he used to live in Scottsdale. Finished T13 in 2011 and his hunger appears to be back.

It is amazing to think Geoff Ogilvy is only 35,  it feels like he has been around forever. However, this could be a big year for the former US Open Champion as his tour exemptions run out at the end of the season.

To try and reignite his career, the Australian hired Matthew Tritton towards the end of 2012 to replace long-time caddie Alistair Matheson. Tritton was on Kuchar’s bag as he made his way back from the wilderness and Ogilvy will be hoping for a similar impact.

Earlier signs are encouraging. Ogilvy finished the year with a T23 in Australia and started his PGA Tour season with a T27 at the Humana, where he shot a pair of 65s. A missed cut at the Farmers was disappointing but he should be galvanised by a return to TPC Scottsdale.

Ogilvy used to live in Scottsdale, therefore he should be familiar with the course and its surroundings. On his last visit in 2011, he finished T13 and he has two further top-20 finishes in his locker.

Inspired by compatriot Adam Scott’s return to the top, I’m backing the former world number 7 to start his comeback at the Phoenix Open. At 100/1 (Bet365) he looks a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top five finish.
