Joburg Open Tips: Seve Benson

Ranked 17th for scoring average last year and finished T50-T19-T35 in the Desert Swing, where the competition was much stronger.

Seve Benson missed his first three cuts at the Royal Johannesburg Club but he finished an encouraging T10 last year and is a much-improved player.

The Wentworth golfer is starting to look comfortable on the European Tour after several injury-plagued years and in 2015, he seems to have taken another step-up.

Benson finished T50-T19-T35 in the Desert Swing and was second at the halfway stage in Dubai. Playing in the final group with Rory McIlroy derailed his progress but he would have learnt plenty from the world number one.

The 28-year-old has the attributes to succeed, he hits the ball a long way and finished a highly commendable 17th for scoring average last year.

The Joburg Open is a big drop in grade compared to his recent exploits and Benson is a good each-way bet at 45/1 (Bet365).
