Joburg Open Tips: James Morrison

Joburg Open Tips: James Morrison

Back together with long-time coach Hugh Marr and results improving with three top-25s in four starts this season.

James Morrison is a player I’ve backed several times in the last twelve months and he looks to be on an upwards curve. Last summer he split from his long-time coach Hugh Marr to work with Sean Foley (Justin Rose’s coach) but in his National Club Golfer column he admits that didn’t work out and he’s back with Hugh Marr again.

That’s seems a good decision judged by his results this season. In four starts Morrison, has finished 13-MC-23-12, including a top-25 in South Africa at the SA Open. His results at the Joburg Open are mixed but a T16 in 2014 provides room for optimism.

If Morrison can get close to the form that won him the Open de Espana then he should be competitive at Royal Johannesburg, in what is a much weaker field. A big result is on the horizon and at 66/1 (Skybet) he is a great bet with 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
