Joburg Open Tips: Dean Burmester

Joburg Open Tips: Dean Burmester

Hasn’t finished lower than T12 on last five starts in Africa. Finished T13 last year with rounds of 64-65 sandwiching a pair of 73s.

The SA Open was dominated by South Africans last week and it could be a similar story at the Joburg Open. Dean Burmester flew under the radar for the majority of the tournament but he still managed to quietly tiptoe into the top-10 and there aren’t many hotter players in Africa right now.

The 26-year-old won four times in 2015 and his last five starts in Africa read T12-1-1-T11-T10.

Last week Burmester led the field in driving distance but his power wasn’t a massive advantage on the tree-lined Glendower track. This week he faces a more suitable challenge on the longer but more forgiving Royal Johannesburg & Kensington course.

Burmester finished T13 last year but hinted at much better with rounds of 64-65 book-ending a pair of 73s. At 40/1 he is a good each-way bet with Ladbrokes paying 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
