Joburg Open Tips: Jorge Campillo

Last week both our tips finished T12 and although they never really threatened, there was enough encouragement to keep them on the short-list.

Of the pair I’m more taken by Jorge Campillo’s chances this week. The Spaniard only dropped shots on 8 holes last week unfortunately he was heavily punished, with two double bogeys on his card.

Leaving the fairway at Glendower invariably means trouble, with thick trees and water lurking nearby. Considering Campillo only hit 44.6% of fairways (ranked 59th) he did exceptionally well to register a top-20 finish.

This week the two courses at Royal Johannesburg are more likely to suit. Not only are they easier but and the fairways are more generous.

Campillo is enjoying a good run of form, he has finished T46-T6-T20-T41-T12 in his last five starts and another strong show can be expected at 66/1 with BetVictor paying 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
