Humana Challenge Tips: Tommy Gainey

Looking for financial Gainey

Regularly paid out each-way backers with four top-3 finishes last year. Thrives on less demanding courses.

Last year I mentioned that Tommy Gainey is often under bet because of his ungainly swing and his ‘two gloves’. The same seems to be happening again as he is much better than the 150/1 quoted by Skybet.

In 2011, he enjoyed 7 top-ten finishes on tour, only seven players had more. Amongst those excellent results he finished third a staggering four times. The problem with Tommy Gainey is trying to predict when he’ll peak.

More often than not, a good tournament is preceded by a missed cut, but if there is any common thread it is the difficulty of the course.

Gainey ranked 29th on tour for birdie average and it was at the easier venues where he earned his best results. In 2011 his top-ten finishes were achieved with scores of: -14,-3,-11,-13,-19,-14,-18. With only the three-under-par finish at the Honda Classic really deviating from the mean.

An excellent driver of the ball, the 36-year-old American thrives when he can pummel his tee shots. The Humana Challenge is an event that rewards attacking golf and with 18 pars-5s to get at in total, this could be a going weekend for Gainey.

Back him each way at 150/1 with Skybet and get ¼ odds for a top five finish.
